It's always been an interest for me, researching the family tree, finding out where I came from.
Obviously, I know where I came from, but the history of the family. For example, most of the family I know are on my nan's (m) side of the family. In the scheme of things, I come from a very small-ish immediate family; mum, dad & me! I do have two half-sisters, one brother-in-law and two nieces and a nephew.
There's obviously aunts & uncles in the mix, but that's where the family broadens! I have a lot of aunts, uncles and cousins (p), whom I have quite a bit of information on (thank you, Facebook!) but beyond my grandma and grandad (p) I don't know too much, and neither does my dad! On my mum's side, I have many more 2nd cousins and, although I have them on Facebook, I don't know too much about them.
So, as I said, I've always been interested and keen to research the family tree!
My starting point brought me to use a website I have used previously, Family Echo. It's a free site where you add the information in yourself. I started off adding the basics of the family I could think off from the top of my head (cousins, aunts, uncles etc.) and then using a family tree that a cousin (m) had started for me for a school project years ago, I used that to start creating my basic tree. My dad then suggested that I got in touch with my aunt (p) as he believed she had already begun to create a tree with my Grandma & Grandad's (p) parents. She sent me what I had and I imported it into the system to grow my tree even more.
I began my research just before my 22nd Birthday, so when we had a family meal, I brought it up to the Grandparents to see if they had any information to start with. Both grandmothers had information they could tell me and were happy for me to talk to them about it at a later date.
After the meal, I was staying at my nan's (m) and, although we said we'd talk about it at a later date, became more and more interested and started to tell me more stories from when she was younger. Bless her, ever since I said I was looking into the family tree, she's apparently been waking up in the middle of the night remembering other little facts for me haha!
So, anyway, I bought myself a subscription to Ancestry that night and began my work on a bigger, more informative tree!
My grandad (m) didn't know much about his family, although had a basic family tree of his father's side, and with some small snippets of info from him, I came across pictures of his nan that someone else had on their tree! Maybe I could arrange a chat with them so we can compare notes?!
TL;DR: from little old me, I have added several family members to my tree spanning back to the 1600s I've not all transferred from Family Echo > Ancestry, but in turn I've added more to the Ancestry that I didn't have on Family Echo, so it sort of balances itself out? Anyway - I have 193 family members on FamilyEcho and 94 on Ancestry.
I still have some digging to do, but my next steps are to have a chat with my Grandma (p) to fill in more details on that side of the family!
Sorry for the boring, long, wordy post! You may have found it interesting, you might not have! This is just a post to outline what areas of the tree I've researched so far!
Stay tuned (if you were interested) for the updates!
